Praised in the New York Times for the “power and grittiness” of his music, Auckland-based composer Dave Flynn has redefined the possibilities of orchestral music by creating the cross-genre Irish Memory Orchestra, a “formidable collective of musicians” (Irish Times). His film scoring credits include 'The Hard Road to Klondike' starring Oscar-nominee Stephen Rea and 'The Enigma of Frank Ryan' directed by Des Bell.
A versatile composer, arranger, songwriter and musician, Flynn has expertise in many genres including classical, pop, rock, jazz and various international styles, particularly the traditional music of his native Ireland.
His music has been published by Mel Bay, Reed Music and Frisbee Publications. His compositions have been recorded at world-class facilities including Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, Windmill Lane and Grouse Lodge. His music has been released on labels including Sono Lumino, Crooked Water, CMC and his own Frisbee Records.
He has orchestrated music for hit singer-songwriters Declan O'Rourke and Paddy Casey, and collaborated with leading folk and classical artists including Irina Muresanu, Martin Hayes (The Gloaming), Mairtin O'Connor, Vyvienne Long, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Crash Ensemble, Rolf Hind, Smith Quartet, ConTempo Quartet and the RTE Concert Orchestra
